Upon the acquisition of this odd portrait of young Truman Capote, by Carl Van Vechten, I began to think of my own boyhood in Alabama, where I had an identical shirt and a shelf full of odd stuffed creatures.......When I first got out of Dodge and visited New York, encountering many of the same personalities that Truman had come across just a few years before......I thought of "Breakfast at Tiffany's", wherein the young Lula Mae Barnes cops some attitude and transforms herself into Holly Golightly.........Fortunately, I did not fall for the tinsel and glamour of the Big Town.......
